TRAINING TIPS TO KEEP YOU SANE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS

Winter weather can get on your nerves when it comes to your aerial goals. Here are some tips to fight those winter blues and stay on top of your goals!

DON’T SKIP THE WARM UP

The warm up is so important! During the colder months there is an increased risk of injury as your muscles can rapidly cool down in the cold air. Make sure to keep moving throughout your class, even doing some light stretching while your instructor explains something to the class. Proper warm ups help prevent unnecessary injuries.

WEAR LAYERS

Dressing in layers will help you manage your body temperature as you warm up and progress through the class. Start out with a oversized loose sweart, wrap cardigan, leggings, and socks or leg warmers ;as you go through the warm up you can start to remove layers as you get warmer. Thigh high leg warmers are great for pole and lyra. We have plenty of these items in our boutique!

BEAT THE WINTER BLUES

In the winter it is easy to stay home and start to lose some of our motivation. Weather can affect people differently such as increased fatigue, irritability, or even feeling down. Try to get into the studio more during the winter months! Come with a friend that way you can hold each other accountable. Exercise can immediatly boost your mood and energy levels. Not to mention we love the positive energy at our studio. Energy always transfers. Who doesn’t want a boost of positive energy?

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN

POLE: Winter weather brings dry skin. If you have very dry skin this will cause you not to stick to the pole. So use a light moisturizer in the morning so you can stick to the pole better in the evening. You can also use Corn Huskers lotion (it helps make your skin sticky without the slippery oils; you can buy at Walgreens or CVS). If you have sweaty skin you are in luck! In the winter this won’t affect you as much.

LYRA/SILKS: In the winter months sometimes our hands won’t stick as well; so don’t be surprised if you have to use more rosin or chalk.

WHEN LEAVING CLASS… WRAP UP

When you are leaving the studio after class put your clothes back on…LOL. Even if you are really warm it is still best to cover up on your way out. This prevents your muscles from cramping and tensing up. Also your pores are open which increases your chances of getting sick. So wrap it up and stay warm!
