Unleash your inner sex goddess: How to create an alter ego

When most of us start taking pole and sensual classes, we show up with self-doubt and fear in tow. We scrutinize our bodies in the mirror, grimace at dance moves that don’t look the same as our peers when we do them, and sometimes, we can’t quite silence the voice inside our heads that tells us we aren’t good enough.

Sensual dance whether on the ground or in the air, requires radical self acceptance and a fundamental understanding of who you are as a sensual being. That understanding comes from knowing and accepting your body as it is and honoring its need for pleasure.

Alter egos are the gateway to exploring the full landscape of who you are. Creating this ego liberates you from the voice inside your head that tells you that you are not enough, that your body is not meant to move a certain way.  It is a safe space to redefine yourself free from expectation, fear, trauma, and self-doubt.

Here is how you can start creating your alter ego:

Step 1: Describe your sensual self

Not all alter egos are the same. Are you a playful sex kitten who likes to body roll to r&b? Maybe you are a dark goddess who loves hair whips and hard rock. You might be a twerk queen who loves to pop it in a handstand.

Describe yourself. Maybe you move smooth like butter or fierce like a lioness. You might be honey drop sweet or fiery and spicy. Write down your adjectives along with music, clothing items, and anything else that resonates with this identity.

Step 2: Come up with your name

Naming your alter ego gives it power and creates separation from your everyday life. Start from your list of adjectives and think about what you want to invoke when you introduce yourself.

Step 3: Embody your alter ego

After you define and name your alter ego, now you have to embody her. Style is important for expressing this part of your personality. Something as simple as your favorite lipstick and a mesh bodysuit can be transformative.

Movement is another important part of self-expression . Study your body as you dance. Your personality will dictate whether you move slow and sensual or quick and flirty. Let what feels good and true to who you are guide how you dress and dance.
